Hey, my name is Rachel Slater. I’m 17 years old, just about to head into the final Leaving Cert year at Loreto in Milford. I’d say I’m pretty much your average teenager...Currently, I am a member of the Milford Sexual Health Reference Project and through this, myself and a group of my friends have piloted a safety when out at night poster, which this website is based on. During a casual chat one summer’s day last year, the issue of safety and awareness of potential danger when on a night out came up. We were concerned about this issue and felt something should be done...And that is where the poster comes in. An eye-catching A4 design with our top ten tips printed clearly down the middle, it is going to be displayed in bars and clubs all over the country. The poster can be downloaded by clicking on the images at the bottom of this homepage.

We all know the feeling – buzzing with excitement about the night ahead. You’re on a high, thinking of how much fun is just around the corner. And usually, the last thing on your mind is your own personal safety, right? Well that is what we want to change. Maybe, just maybe, it is the time that we should all stop for a second and contemplate this topic. It is more crucial now, more than ever, to take heed of the necessary precautions and ensure you are not putting yourself in any danger by simply going out and just wanting to enjoy yourself...

Take organising your lift home for example...It’s no fun at all, standing around in the little hours of the morning wondering how on earth you’re going to get home-sweet-home now is it?
There is no harm in enjoying a drink, but there’s no need to go to extremes. What crosses your mind when that drunk staggers past you, barely able to stand on their own two feet? Wow, they must be having a great time? Thought not.

Avoid taking risks when on a night out. What might seem like a minor gamble could turn out to be a very reckless decision. It was a wise man that said it’s better to be safe than sorry.
So whether you’re heading to that party of the century, off to an amazing gig or simply down to your local disco with a few friends, one thing should always be in the back of your mind – your own safety.

Take Care,  Rach xx
